In the final over of India’s triumph in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. Rohit Sharma described the events that happened. Yuvraj Singh had turned away, terrified to look up in case S Sreesanth dropped the catch, he remembered.
When Misbah-ul-Haq attempted to sweep the ball over a short fine leg from Joginder Sharma’s bowling. Then six runs were required off the final four deliveries. Sreesanth finished the catch on the edge of the circle to give India their first T20 World Cup victory.
The incidents were recounted by Rohit Sharma on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup website. As the ball went up, he was fielding at the cover and watched Yuvraj Singh whirl around at point.
“I was standing at covers that particular ball. Yuvi was at the point. The moment Misbah played that shot, I saw Yuvi turning around. He was not watching because he thought he was going to drop it,” Rohit Sharma said.
Sreesanth would not have faced as much strain in his life. As he would when the ball was thrown at him, according to the Indian vice-captain.
“I was praying that just catch it. He didn’t have to move much. It was just there. He just moved two, three steps back and took it. It was also the most pressure catch that he must have taken in his life.” he said
Rohit Sharma is the sole member of the Indian squad that played in the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team.

The Indian triumph in 2007 was described by Rohit Sharma as “surreal.” The atmosphere in the Wanderers’ stadium was fantastic, he said, with the stadium packed with Indian and also Pakistani fans, which added to the experience.
“At the stadium, you could only see India and Pakistan fans. I think more was India. Now, it feels surreal. It’s just unbelievable what we did on that day.” he said
The 34-year-old went on to say that playing for India in the World Cup final felt like a dream at the time.
“I was 20 years old at that point and for me, to be in the final of the World Cup, of an inaugural T20 World Cup, was itself a great deal. And then to be playing the finals, and just going out there. Scoring runs and also taking catches and taking wickets. And seeing all the magic happen on the field was like a dream,” he said
When India and Pakistan play their first encounter of the Super 12 stage on Sunday. They will also meet for the second time in a T20 World Cup.
