Aaron Finch, Australia’s captain, has revealed the lineup for Saturday’s tournament opener against South Africa. Both teams will be hoping to get off to a good start in their campaigns.
Aaron Finch did not name the men who will play against the Proteas on Saturday, but he did say he will use seven specialist bats. The Men in Yellow, according to Finch, will rely on their all-rounders.
Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis, according to Aaron Finch, are capable of doing their tasks. On these sluggish wickets, the veteran feels the combo can play the needed role.
“We’ll go in with seven specialist batters, four specialist bowlers plus the all-rounders. We’ve got a lot of confidence in Maxwell, Stoinis, and Marsh to be able to bowl four overs as well as a chop out. We think that that on these wickets in these conditions that they can do a really good job and be an attacking option as much as anything.” he said
Australia was defeated by India in a warm-up match. They did, however, defeat New Zealand in a nail-biter. Regardless, the Men in Yellow will have to put in a lot of work to advance out of the group stage.
“Plans have gone out the window recently but that’s part and parcel with what’s happened worldwide. We’re fully understanding of that. We obviously haven’t played a huge amount of cricket as a group over the last 18 months. But it’s coming together quite nicely. To have two really good hit out against New Zealand and India was crucial for our preparation.” he added
Aaron Finch
Given their lack of returns and rhythm, Australia’s openers Aaron Finch and David Warner are concerning prospects heading into the competition. If the Men in Yellow are to win their first T20 title this year, they must improve their form.
