Aakash Chopra- “Group 2 has suddenly become a cakewalk” in T20 World Cup 2021

As a result, Aakash Chopra believes the league phase of the T20 World Cup 2021 has become a walk in the park for the Group 2 favorites.

Bangladesh, who were expected to be in Group 2 after finishing first in Round 1 Group B. It could only finish second and hence join Group 1 for the Super 12 stage. Sri Lanka is almost certain to finish first in Group A of Round 1 and will not be in the main event group with India and Pakistan.

“Scotland and Ireland/Namibia will come in India’s group. Group 2 has suddenly become a cakewalk. Things are easier in India’s group because of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, New Zealand.” He explained

“Upsets can happen but I am not expecting too many upsets there. The upset could be Scotland beating New Zealand but Ireland/Namibia defeating India – nothing like that is going to happen.” Aakash Chopra observed

For the two semi-final slots from Group 2, India, Pakistan, and New Zealand are set to compete. Afghanistan, Scotland and Ireland/Namibia have the potential to create a few upsets. They are unlikely to advance to the semi-finals.

The addition of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, who are almost expected to enter the group. It has made Group 1 much more difficult, according to Aakash Chopra.

“Group 1, which was already the Group of Death, will see an amazing dogfight now because Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are going to reach Group 1. This is incredible, two Asian teams have joined the group and a lot of encounters will be played in Sharjah.” He reasoned

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, according to the 44-year-old, would like to be a part of Group 1 because the surfaces are also to their taste.

“It is going to be so much fun. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka must be happier actually to go in that pool because the chances of things turning topsy-turvy in that group have increased.” Aakash Chopra said

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka tweakers will benefit greatly from the low and slow Sharjah surface. While Bangladesh will face the West Indies in Sharjah if Sri Lanka finishes first in Group A. They would face South Africa and England at the same site.
