Wesley Barresi, a former Netherlands hitter, has chastised the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) for its lack of devotion to the game. He claimed that the board’s laxity was to blame for the team’s poor performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
The Netherlands had a solid chance of qualifying for the Super 12 stage going into the event. However, they have been eliminated after losing both of their first-round matches.
Wesley Barresi turned to Twitter to assert that the performance does not reflect the quality of Dutch cricket, but rather the laziness of a cricket board that has brought the sport to a new low in the country.
“May this T20 WorldCup (does) not reflect the quality cricketers the Netherlands Cricket possesses but highlights a cricket board that has no interest in growing this team, nurturing its players, its performance, and the culture that we have created over the last ten years,” Wesley Barresi tweeted.
Mudassar Bukhari, a former player, and Barresi’s teammate, also expressed his support for the statement, stating that he entirely agrees with it.

Wesley Barresi has played 32 ODIs and 42 T20Is for the Netherlands. He has a total of 1726 international runs, including 10 fifties and a century.
When the Netherlands faces Sri Lanka in Sharjah on Friday, they will have one more chance to reclaim some prestige. Given the strength of the Sri Lankan team, it may prove to be a difficult excursion for the Dutchmen, but they will try to make an impression before returning home.
Sri Lanka has already qualified for the Super 12 stage with strong performances in the first two games. Their excellent net run rate could enable them to finish first in Group A.
From Group A, the victor of the Ireland-Namibia match will join Sri Lanka in the Super 12.
