Faf du Plessis, the opening batsman for Chennai Super Kings in their title-winning Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign, said he was “grateful” for the opportunity.
CSK won the IPL 2021 final by 27 runs over Kolkata Knight Riders, giving MS Dhoni his fourth IPL trophy. The former South African captain top-scored in the summit showdown with 86 off 59 balls, securing Chennai’s third consecutive win against KKR this season, and arguably the most crucial.

Du Plessis then congratulated his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad, who concluded the IPL 2021 with 635 runs from 16 games as the leading run-scorer. In only his second year in the IPL, he beat second-placed du Plessis by two runs to win the Orange Cap.

“Ruturaj Gaikwad is a special talent. Indian cricket is blessed with talent. He is getting better. He’s got a super, bright future ahead of him. I have a word with him, but I don’t think he needs me,” du Plessis said.
CSK made a stunning recovery in 2021, after missing out on a playoff berth for the first time in the tournament’s history in 2020.
MS Dhoni’s side had a near-perfect season, qualifying for the play-offs ahead of the competition and establishing their domination in the knockout stages.
