Mohammad Nabi on Friday said that leading Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup is a tough job

Mohammad Nabi, the captain of Afghanistan’s cricket team, has confessed that leading the squad in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup will be difficult, but he will do his best.

The T20 World Cup will begin on October 17 in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

In Group 2, Afghanistan is joined by India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and two qualifiers.

On October 10, Nabi was chosen captain of the final Afghan squad after star all-rounder Rashid Khan renounced the position, claiming he was not consulted during the selection process. Nabi, 36, is no stranger to the position, having served as the team’s captain from 2013 to 2015.

“Yeah, it’s (captaincy) a tough job, in the end, I will try my best to lead the team in the World Cup and perform well in the tournament. (I am) really excited to play as a captain in this event,” Nabi said in a conference call with the media.

Afghanistan will play their first match on October 25 against around one qualifier who has yet to be determined.

Despite the Taliban taking control of the country after US soldiers withdrew amid widespread instability and violence, the team has made it to the World Cup.

Nabi stayed away from the subject, merely addressing minor visa issues the squad had before arriving.

“The team is brilliant and they are preparing from the last one and half months, and there was little bit (of) struggle on visas, so didn’t arrive in UAE early, they were practicing in Qatar,” Nabi said.

“They (the players) adjust with the weather, Qatar and UAE weather are all (almost) the same. We will try our best to perform well in the tournament…and go until the end,” added the right-handed batter and off-break bowler.
