Virat Kohli will enjoy his cricket in the T20 World cup, says Irfan Pathan

As he chases an elusive first major championship at the World Cup. Virat Kohli will be looking for a fairytale ending to his leadership of India’s T20 squad.

Kohli, 32, will step down as T20 captain after the 16-nation tournament begins on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Many have praised the prodigious run-decision scorers to focus more on his batting. By stepping down as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Kohli became the focus of rising speculation as the wait for success intensified in recent months.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes Kohli will be able to enter the World Cup with no pressure, which will benefit the team. The World Cup begins on October 24.

“I think he will enjoy his cricket more now after taking this decision,” Pathan, who was instrumental in India’s first T20 World Cup victory in 2007, told AFP.

“With the side, the confidence, and the experience they have, India will do well.”

MS Dhoni

Virat Kohli

After MS Dhoni stood down as limited-overs captain in 2017, Kohli took over as captain in all formats. India hasn’t won a World Cup or a Champions Trophy since then.

Kohli will continue to have Dhoni as his team’s mentor during the competition. In 2007, Dhoni led India to the T20 World Cup, and in 2011, he won the 50-over World Cup.

The triumph inspired a T20 fad in South Asia, ultimately in the IPL’s inception in 2008.

After making his ODI debut in 2008, Kohli swiftly built his own brand of cricket, although he has been chastised for failing to win a world title.

In 2016, India, the hosts and led by Dhoni, lost in the semi-finals against eventual winners West Indies, despite Kohli’s unbeaten 89.

For over a month, all 15 members of the Indian squad, as well as three standby players, have been in the UAE, working with their respective IPL clubs to get accustomed to the pitches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
