Jos Buttler is also one of the most important batsmen for RR in IPL 2021

After Virat Kohli’s nine-year reign as the franchise’s captain came to an end earlier this week, Michael Vaughan believes England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler could be a suitable candidate to be the franchise’s next captain. Buttler has the personality to become like Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni and lead the squad with Kohli in it, according to Michael Vaughan, the 2005 Ashes-winning England captain.

Vaughan also said that it is unclear if Rajasthan Royals will let him go. Buttler is England’s vice-captain in limited-overs and has also been deputy to Joe Root in Tests in the absence of Ben Stokes. He chose not to play in the UAE leg but remains one of the most important batsmen in the RR lineup. “I will throw you a name. This name is out of the box because he’s from another franchise and they may retain him, but I would choose Jos Buttler to go there and be the captain. He’s got it in him to be like MS Dhoni. I have no doubt about him,” Vaughan said

“He’s been playing for the England side under Eoin Morgan. Tactically very astute. Again, I don’t know what Rajasthan is thinking of doing with him. But I would personally take Buttler to the RCB camp, put him behind the stumps, and ask him to captain,” he said.

It will be critical, according to Vaughan, to have a strong personality who can handle Kohli.

“It’s just that, who’s got the character and personality to go in there and captain Virat Kohli. That’s got to be a skillful person, who knows himself, knows T20 cricket, knows how to manage people and particularly someone like Virat Kohli. Once you were the captain, now you are just in the ranks and be that senior player,” Vaughan said
