IPL 2021: As such, The ICC T20 World Cup was set to be held in India in 2021. However, because of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country. Therefore, the BCCI moved the competition to Oman and the United Arab Emirates a few months ago. The world’s most prestigious international T20 event will be held in the Middle East soon, with 16 teams competing.
Champions for the first time This year, India is one of the favorites to win the championship. The Indian cricket team, along with Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan, is in Super 12 Group 2. After the qualifying round, two additional teams will be added to Group 2.
While India has played a T20I match against 11 of the 16 teams competing in the T20 World Cup 2021, they will be pitted against the four nations listed below for the first time in the T20I format.
#1 Oman
Oman, co-hosts of the 2017 mega event, was also a participant in the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup. They were, however, knocked out of the tournament before the Super 10s stage. Oman is in Group B of the qualifying round this year, alongside Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, and Scotland.
#2 Netherlands
India has played the Netherlands in two One-Day Internationals (ODIs), but the Men in Blue have never faced them in the shorter format of the game. The Netherlands, together with Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Namibia, are in Group A of the qualifying round.
#3 Namibia
Namibia is another team that has faced India in one-day internationals but not in T20Is. For the first time in their cricket history, the African country has qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup.
#4 Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea will also compete in the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time this year. PNG has made great progress in men’s cricket in recent years, led by Assad Vala.
