Gautam Gambhir has spoken in on MS Dhoni’s performance for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL 2021.
The former opener was questioned if MS Dhoni is still a ‘threat’ to bowling lines. To which he laconically remarked that the wicketkeeper-batsman must first face enough balls. In order to have any effect on the opposition.
“He needs to bat to be a threat. He doesn’t bat enough balls in the game, so he needs to bat first.” Gambhir said
During the same conversation, former West Indian bowler Ian Bishop concurred with Gautam Gambhir. MS Dhoni, Bishop believes, is unlikely to regain his old form anytime soon, and that Ravindra Jadeja and others should bat ahead of him.
“Yeah, Dhoni doesn’t seem to be firing so there are other guys, certainly Ravindra Jadeja, that I would like to see get more batting opportunities. I think we’ve seen that over the course of this season, Dhoni doesn’t seem like he’ll recapture his form,” he said
The comments from Gautam Gambhir and Ian Bishop came just days after MS Dhoni had the slowest innings in IPL history (minimum 25 balls faced).
Delhi Capitals
The veteran batsman batted at number six against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and scored only 18 runs off 27 balls. He hit the jackpot with a score of 66.6 after playing 10 dot balls with no boundaries. This season has also been Dhoni’s weakest in terms of overall performance, with 84 runs from 13 games at an average of 14.
Gautam Gambhir and Ian Bishop both agreed that CSK should sit Suresh Raina for at least another game and give Robin Uthappa a longer rope after he scored a run-a-ball 19 in the previous match.
