However, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thanks to Axar Patel’s heroics with the ball (CSK). Thus, The Capitals defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by three wickets to finish second in the ongoing IPL 2021.
Despite a late surge from Ambati Rayudu (55*), Delhi restricted the Super Kings to 136 runs by bowling first. To get things started for Delhi, Axar Patel dismissed CSK opener Faf du Plessis. Ravichandran Ashwin also contributed a useful spell, with figures of 1/20.
Gujarat’s all-rounder, who was named player of the match, emphasized the need of bowling the correct line and length on this track.
“It is difficult but important to assess the lines and the speeds at which we needed to be bowling on this pitch. I thought they were five or ten runs short in the powerplay,” he said
Axar Patel took two wickets today in Dubai, bringing his season total to 14 wickets at a 6.05 economy rate.
The 27-year-old also contributed with the bat, partnering with Shimron Hetmyer for 36 runs for the seventh wicket. The goal, according to Axar Patel, was to hunt for singles.
“The discussion with Hetmyer was about the lines they’d bowl. He told me that they would bowl wide and he asked me to play straight and look for singles. Such matches give you a lot of confidence in the knockouts,” Axar Patel concluded.
Shimron Hetmyer
Shimron Hetmyer went past the target with two balls to spare, scoring 28 runs off 18 deliveries. When Delhi takes on Royal Challengers Bangalore in their final league game, they will be hoping to keep their winning streak going.
