In fact, In the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, everything Venkatesh Iyer touches turns to gold. The 26-year-old all-rounder did not play for Kolkata Knight Riders during the first half of the season in India, but his performances in the UAE have garnered attention.
Venkatesh Iyer starred with the ball for Kolkata Knight Riders in a critical match against last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals, after wreaking havoc with opposing bowlers with his batting prowess in the UAE. Iyer, on the other hand, bowled medium-pace and only gave up 29 runs while scooping up two crucial wickets in Shimron Hetmyer and Axar Patel. Then, on a slow Sharjah surface, DC was reduced to 127/9 in 20 overs.
As Delhi batsmen struggled to smash boundaries against the medium-pacer, Venkatesh Iyer nailed his yorkers. Iyer was given all four overs by Eoin Morgan, and the opener reacted by delivering them with precision and intensity.
Andre Russell
With the ball, KKR did not miss Andre Russell, as Iyer chipped in well after KKR elected to rest Russell, who appeared to have picked up an injury in their previous game.
“Felt good with the ball. Always had the confidence that I can deliver with the ball. I do practice the yorker a lot. I practice with my bowling coach Anand Rajan. For me, it’s about accuracy and bowling to my field. As long as my execution is current, I am extremely satisfied,” Venkatesh Iyer said.
“I think to be a player who can help in all three departments is good. I thrive fielding as well. I’ve always wanted to be that cricketer,” Iyer said
