Shane Warne, a former Australian spinner, criticized Ravichandran Ashwin for the extra-run controversy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Sharjah.
A fielder’s throw hit Rishabh Pant and ricocheted at the end of DC’s innings. Pant was summoned for a second run by Ashwin, which irked KKR captain Eoin Morgan. Morgan and the DC spinner got into a heated argument after Ashwin was out on the next ball.
When Morgan stepped out to bat, the struggle between Ashwin and Morgan continued. The DC off-spinner gave the KKR skipper a send-off after dismissing him for a duck.
Earlier this year, when Ashwin was playing for Kings XI Punjab, he was the subject of a heated discussion after he Mankaded Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler (now Punjab Kings).

KKR wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik stated in a post-match press conference that the Kolkata captain didn’t like the DC batters getting an additional run after a ricochet when asked about the confrontation between Ashwin and Morgan.
“Rahul Tripathi threw the ball, it hit Rishabh Pant, and then it ricocheted off that. Then (Ravichandran) Ashwin called for it and they started to run. I don’t think (Eoin) Morgan appreciates that. He is somebody who, when the ball hits the batsman or the pad, expects them not to run in the spirit of cricket. It’s a very grey area and a very interesting topic. I have my own opinion on it but at the moment I’d just say I am happy I played peacemaker and things have come to a good standstill right now.” he said
KKR went on to overcome DC by three wickets after chasing a total of 128. Sunil Narine excelled with the bat (21 off 10) and the bowling (2 for 18).
