Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer who now works as a broadcaster, says Yuzvendra Chahal is back to his best.
If his recent two appearances in the UAE provide any indication, Chahal is returning to form. During the first half of the season, he only got four wickets at an average of 47.25 and a costly economy rate of 8.26 in seven appearances. The Haryana leg-spinner, on the other hand, has taken five wickets in a row.
Manjrekar believes Chahal is a person who is roused by a challenge. He further said that Chahal’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup would have enraged him even more.
“I think he (Chahal) is back to his best and this is what Chahal does. He bowls with a lot of heart, and he is one of those guys who will get stirred by a challenge, and not find shelter and not get bogged down by it,” he said
Yuzvendra Chahal
The Indian leg-spinner was instrumental in RCB’s stunning victory over the Mumbai Indians a few days ago. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled four overs for 11 runs and three wickets, including the key scalps of Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan.
Many cricket fans and experts were perplexed by Yuzvendra Chahal’s absence from India’s T20 World Cup roster. Manjrekar, on the other hand, believes the selectors had good cause to pick Rahul Chahar over the RCB leg-spinner. This is due to both bowlers’ recent form in the build-up to the IPL’s UAE leg.
“But, to be fair to the selectors, when they picked the side and they had to include one wrist spinner, the choice was between Chahal and Rahul Chahar. It was immediately after the trip to Sri Lanka, and while Chahal was the pick of the spinners there, just the track record of their performances in T20 cricket, Rahul Chahar was head and shoulders above Chahal.’ Manjrekar said
