In a social media post, vice-captain Rohit Sharma expressed his desire for India to repeat history at the 2017 T20 World Cup, recalling the team’s 2007 triumph under MS Dhoni.
Rohit, then 20 years old, was a key player of MS Dhoni’s young team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup in Durban 14 years ago on September 24 in Johannesburg. At the time, Rohit was in his first year of international cricket.

The 34-year-old, who is expected to succeed Virat Kohli as India’s T20 captain after the World Cup, relived India’s 2007 World T20 success and pushed the team to “make it happen” once more as they prepare for the showpiece tournament to begin.
“Johannesburg, September 24th, 2007. The day when a billion wishes were realized.
“Who would have thought back then that a relatively inexperienced, young team like ours would end up creating history!! It’s been 14 years since, we’ve come a long way, we’ve created many more histories, we’ve had our setbacks, we struggled, but it didn’t break our spirits. Because we never give up. We give it all!!! he said
“This @icc #T20WorldCup each one of us is going to give everything to repeat history. We’re coming for it. India, let’s make it happen. I am #InItToWinIt,” Rohit said in a post on Instagram.
