Former national selector MSK Prasad feels the stress of the bio-bubble life over the final year likely led to Virat Kohli’s choice of venturing down as India’s T20 captain after the upcoming World Cup within the United Arab Emirates.
Kohli cited workload administration as the reason to grant up T20I captaincy. It remains to be seen who will take over as India’s T20I captain after the World Cup but Rohit Sharma is the frontrunner to be his successor. Prasad, however, is astounded by the timing of Kohli’s choice to give up the post fair before a major competition.
“It is a little surprising that the decision was announced before the T20 World Cup. But then, the stress he must be carrying due to the bubble life and moving on from one bubble to another (could have also impacted). It is clearly visible and that has impacted his mindset,” Prasad quoted
Therefore, Virat is somebody who has scored 70 centuries (43 in ODIs and 27 in Tests) in a decade has accomplished something incredible, and has set tall measures.
“Probably, the bubble life had an impact on his individual performance, and that would have perhaps made him take such a decision before the T20 World Cup. Maybe, he wanted to unburden himself by letting go of one format,” he added.
T20 World Cup
Prasad though, sponsored Kohli to lead the Indian group without any pressure in the T20 World Cup, starting October 17.
Under Virat’s captaincy, it has as it were been tall for Indian cricket in the T20s. We have accomplished victory in New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Australia, and this T20 World Glass will be the first mega T20I occasion under his captaincy.
“This decision will de-stress him and unburden him a bit because he knows that he will be letting go of one format after the tournament and that will perhaps free him a bit in the mega event,” Prasad concluded.
